IAN BURKE
Born, Saltburn North Yorkshire 1955
I am a painter printmaker who is a teacher first and foremost. My artwork is based on the coastline from the river Tees to the river Esk and the hinterland of the North Yorkshire Moors. I still enjoy the pursuits of my boyhood which include drawing, painting, walking, fishing and football. I would like to think that my own personal interest and enjoyment form the basis of my ideas to produce work. I am lucky enough to have a large Columbian printing press at home and an obsolete pig shed which serves as my studio. I have a river and a waterfall in the garden of my house which is set in the middle of the moors. I realise that I am very fortunate and I have no desire to look elsewhere for inspiration. I do not court contemporary approval but I very much enjoy the fact that some people like what I do.
